This powerful adaptation of Ernest Gaines’ 1993 National Book Critics Award winning novel centers on a young African-American man wrongly sentenced to death in a deeply prejudiced 1940’s. Through a reluctant school teacher, he is taught how to live and die with grace and dignity. It was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and an Oprah’s Book Club choice.

This production is directed by Ed Smith and features Bob Allen, Kim Bingham, David Ellis, Mandel Hill, Marcus Mauldin, Christopher Piper, and Vickie Washington.

A special post show discussion will be led by guests of the National Association of Black Journalists following the final performance on February 24th at 3:00 PM. The discussion will be open to the audience of the Sunday performance.
